Giving and Stewardship
Annual Canvass (Pledge Drive)
The UUFH is supported directly by the generosity of members and friends. Support is a combination of “time, talent AND treasure.” There is ample opportunity to become involved as a volunteer no matter what kinds of skills you have! There is room for everyone.
Every year members make a pledge to donate a specific financial amount depending upon their individual resources. Pledges are then fulfilled by weekly, monthly or annual contributions that can be made in a variety of ways, including cash-in-the-basket, automatic withdrawals or stock transfers.
Financial support for the UUFH is called “stewardship,” because all members are “stewards” of this religious home. Members must pledge a minimum of $175 annually. The “target pledge” of $1900 per person, however, represents the estimated cost associated with each adult’s membership and is encouraged as a goal. Those unable to pledge at that level are “carried” by the generosity of others and by several fundraisers.
Annual Services Auction
One fundraiser is a major source of significant income and might be considered a member’s responsibility: the annual Services Auction. It is a fun evening for all ages, including a dinner, raffles, and live auction, and includes offerings of parties and events all year long. Participation in the Services Auction helps guarantee an active social life and a financially-secure Fellowship. Those unable to buy or bid often have skills, baked goods or an event to offer. It’s a wonderful community building event.
The Services Auction auction is now web-based! Please visit the UUFH Services Auction on the web for details.
Special gifts are often made to the UUFH when people wish to honor the lives or deeds of those important to them.
The Endowment Fund is used to assure the long-term financial well-being of the Fellowship. Only the interest can be used, and it can only be used for special non-budgetary items. Some recent examples of endowment interest use are:
- $3,300 for seed funding for a part-time youth advisor, and
- $11,380 for several improvements to the Fellowship building and grounds (e.g., weather protection for the handicapped entrance door).
If you also would like to provide a gift to the Endowment Fund, or are thinking about including UUFH in your estate planning, please contact the UUFH Office (631-427-9547). We would like very much to add your name to our Fellowship Legacy Circle.
Minister’s Discretionary Fund
This fund, handled only by the minister, is to aid those within the Fellowship and in the larger community who are experiencing financial difficulties. All assistance is confidential.
Memorial Fund donations are used for special projects of the Memorial Program. Examples of this use are the development of the Memorial Garden, and the installation of the Memorial Panel in our Main Hall.
Your generosity can make dreams come true.
The Wish List is a collection of items that are beyond the scope of the UUFH operating budget that would contribute to Fellowship life.
Wish List items are sometimes nice-to-have materials for Committee work. Sometimes they are long-range dreams of Fellowship members and leaders. In all cases, they represent wishes for special improvements that would enrich the Fellowship premises, programs, and prospects.
Donations made for items in whole or in part are always welcome. Contributions may be designated in memoriam, in celebration, to say thank you, or simply to benefit the Fellowship. Please contact any UUFH representative to contribute to the Wish List.
Items for inclusion in the Wish List may be submitted to the UUFH office for consideration via email or hard copy at any time. Submissions by committees are encouraged and submissions by individuals are also welcome.
Easy Ways to Pay Your Pledge
or Make Contributions
Regular Giving (Including Automated Payments)
Just as you rely upon receiving income on a regular basis, the UUFH relies upon your regular contributions. Our Finance Committee deeply appreciates the efforts of congregation members to make consistent donations throughout the year. There is a convenient electronic giving option for setting up regular contributions. Please contact the UUFH Office at 631-427-9547. It is really easy.
Gifts of Appreciated Investments
If you give appreciated stocks to the UUFH as part of your pledge or other gift, your contribution can save you the capital gains tax otherwise due.
The Unitarian Universalist Association has the resources and expertise to help you support the future of Unitarian Universalism. For instance, we can show you how to make a gift today and receive payments for the rest of your life. We can explain how to make a gift from an Individual Retirement Account (IRA). We can help you craft your estate plans to provide a significant, lasting contribution to our common work as Unitarian Universalists.
Your gift to the Association and member congregations will keep the chalice fires burning.
Various groups within the UUFH propose fundraisers from time to time. All fundraising must be approved in advance. If the fundraiser is expected to raise more than $700, the form below should be filled out. If the fundraiser is expected to raise less than $700, contact a Cluster Coordinator or the UUFH office for assistance.
